Unwelcome Guests

Last night Paola and I were up reaally stinkn late...

We have had comfortable sleeping arrangements, though the mattress was just sitting on the floor in the living room. But one thing to remember about these Central American countries (and Mexico) Is that the houses are rarely sealed well. And sometimes not at all. So there are often many critter visitors.

Well, Pao and I are getting ready for bed, everyone else is already in bed, lights out. And all of a sudden Paola spots a cockroach! Just then it starts flying around the ceiling, darting back and forth around the living room. "MICHELLE! Cockroach!" I don't have my glasses on, so I'm just seeing this moth-like bug flying around. "No, it's not..."  "YES! It is!" I put my glasses on and, sure enough, she was right! Yikes! And the little bugger was going to fly into us! Sick! So we don't know exactly how to kill it... we call for reinforcements. JULIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Poor Julie comes out of her comfy room and helps us kill the stupid bug. Well, she got a broom and knocked it off the ceiling but it fell right at my feet and it immediately started running at lightening fast cockroach speed right around my little toes! So I'm dancing like a ballerina, jumping up and down, screaming like a girl... til it finally runs out under the door and outside. Whew! Thank goodness that's over with.

10 minutes later..... "Michelle!? CUCARACHA!" NOOOOOOO, another one! I get the broom this time, determined to show these ugly bugs who's boss. But it was a sneaky roach and it fell behind the couch. So we tore all the pillows off the couch, moved it away from the wall, trying to find the bug. What a production... all of this while everyone is trying to sleep in the rooms next to us. You can imagine we weren't exactly the quietest as this was all happening either. Finally, I find it, and kill it.

Now, our nerves are shot. 2 roaches, in like 20 minutes. I don't know how I'm going to sleep. THEN, something flies straight toward us from the kitchen... BIG, BROWN, daring EVERYWHERE. But this one was out to get us! It was like the bugs screamed to all their little friends before they died to come and attack us!

It kept flying up to the ceiling, bump into it, then hurl down at us underneith. So at this point, we're totally creeped out, laughing hysterically, trying to kill this thing we're so scared of.... But then I'm like "Wait.... It's not a roach!" and Pao "YES, it IS!" Well, she was right about the first 2, so I'm not doubting her so much anymore. But we didn't know what to do, it was SO fast and flying at us, we had to duck to get away! So here we are, 12 o'clock at night, huddled up in the corner, waiting for this horrible little creature to stop flying everywhere so we could see what it was... But we're waiting, and waiting, and waiting... and it won't stop! Finally, it hits the ceiling again and plummets down to the bed and I quickly hurled a pillow at it, trying to trap it underneith. The moment the pillow hits the bug, the lights go out! All the electricty... gone. Pitch black. And then... we hear the bug start flying again.

Huddled on the edge of the bed, stiff with fear of it touching us, and in darkness, Pao and I don't move... and Julie comes out of her room at the exact moment that the lights come back on. We must've looked like such fools. "Girls," she says "It's a moth." Oh boy. I guess we let our imaginations get the best of us. I feel pretty stupid at this point, but it was quite an aggressive moth!
